Planning ceremonies for people who are overseas
How do we go about it ?
In these days of ease of emailing, it is a straightforward matter for me to arrange the marriage of couples who are overseas in the months preceding their marriage.
We normally exchange emails, make a phone call or have a Skype conversation to establish that the couple are happy with what I can offer, then I email them my comprehensive wedding kit, which contains ideas and options from other ceremonies and many readings, poems and blessings, so they can begin to choose wording that feels right for them.
The marriage licence can be applied for from overseas through the Department of Internal Affairs on www.dia.govt.nz or make enquiries by email on bdm.nz@dia.govt.nz .
Once it is issued the licence is valid for three months. It is possible to apply for the licence from overseas and collect it in the days before the wedding (as I need to have it before I come to marry you).
Alternatively, if the couple are to be in NZ for a week before the wedding, it can be applied for and collected in that time-frame.
